Hearing Aids
Hearing Aids
Your ability to communicate is a priceless gift. Hearing loss isolates you from contact with other people. Our aim is to restore your quality of life through better hearing…… There are broadly two categories of hearing aids (HA) depending on the technology used:
- Analogue
- Digital
Analogue HA is like just loud-speaker. They have a switch for change of volume. They are generalized or what we can say over-the-counter. But they cannot separate the sounds coming from surrounding or conversation. They just enhance the volume and thus create disturbance to ones ears. They are not recommended though cheap.
Digital HA is one, which is computer chip based. They are programmable one. They can be individualized, based on that persons hearing loss. They can be re-programmed, in case of any difficulty or change in hearing loss. They are the one, which should be used in consultation with your doctor.
Types of hearing aids (HA)
- Behind the Ear (BTE)-
- Can be used for all types of hearing impairments.
- They are quite small are placed BTE
- They are connected to the flexible tube of the ear mould by a plastic hook or by a fine wire to a receiver positioned directly in the ear canal.
- In the Ear (ITE)-
- They can be placed completely inside the canal (CIC) or mainly in the external ear canal (ITE) or in the concha of the external ear canal (ITC).
- They are not good choice in cases of severe to profound hearing loss because they do not provide sufficient amplification.
- They are not prescribed to children
- Implantable hearing device-
- Middle Ear Implant
- Bone Anchored HA (BAHA)
- Cochlear Implant
While getting a HA, Always get yourself examined by ENT specialist (to get rid of problems which will effect the hearing like wax & perforation) and then in association with audiologist as well as ENT specialist take a HA which is most appropriate for you.
Common reasons for performing this procedure during your visit include nasal airway obstruction, suspected acute or chronic sinusitis, nasal/facial pain, altered sense of smell, and nosebleeds.
